Bob Came In Pieces - click for larger image!I'm a fan of the big, bold level design objects Bob Came In Pieces uses. They remind me of the scenery in games like Team Fortress 2 and are good because they give a good sense of the depth of the level without cluttering the screen up with too much of that detail stuff. It suits the gameplay which, although utilises physics, is fairly unrealistic and bouncy.

The level design here certainly makes use of all that virtual space out there. There's lots of opportunity to really let rip with the rockets up hills and down deep chasms. This can be especially fun on a particular level where you can bash into ice slabs to break them up. Although once or twice I got stuck inexplicably on scenery, usually this was because the legs of my ship got stuck around other objects or in small openings...Oooer...Luckily though this was hardly a show stopper and there were no other glitches that I found. The checkpoint system removed most of the frustration with "sticky scenery".

The physics puzzles themselves were a little hit and miss. Some played and looked fantastic, I was especially fond of the weight based puzzles but others felt a bit fluky, like the wind based levels. They were all logical and, as I was able to work them out, not exactly rocket science!

I feel like the creator has spent quite a bit of time trying to create puzzles not seen in other games that are similar to this and by and large they've done a good job of keeping it original. There are a few hinge based doors/floors that I've seen before but the large contraption based puzzles were fun to work out.

Bob Came In Pieces - click for larger image!Bob Came In Pieces is surprisingly melodic musically and the gentle but well thought out synthy arrangement that plays throughout matched the game well. Some of the sound effects were disappointingly generic however and I didn't much like the sound the grabber and puller beams made when activated.

Bob Came In Pieces is overall brillo fun!

It combines new puzzles with cartoony goodness and a likeable soundtrack. In fact likeable is a good word to describe the game: Likeable levels (until they bamboozle you with all their possible directions), likeable puzzles, likeable gameplay... For an independent title its fantastic fun, not perfect but for the price you'll be hard pushed to do better!

Score: 79 out of 100

Final Words: An Utterly Likeable game!
