Bob Came In Pieces Guide

Help fitting it all together...as it were

Don't forget to read the review!

Bob Came In Pieces is fantastic ship building, puzzle solving fun. However it's easy to get stuck in places. Here is a walkthrough on how to complete each level:

Chapter 1

This level is all about getting used to the movement controls. I'm sure everyone can manage this one!

Chapter 2

Knocking over boxes is easy, but be careful of the larger boxes. If they get stuck in the wrong place you may not be able to do much about it other than pressing enter to go back to a checkpoint!

When you get to the log with the centre pivot, push it from the top.

After this you'll need to push a ball - gently! - into the opening so that it dislodges a stack of boxes and lets you through.

Next you'll need to fly into the "arm" and keep pushing it until it rotates all the way round and comes to a rest on the ground.

Finally there is a large box blocking the warp bubble. Firstly push it to the right so it falls into the hole. Next fly over the top of it and under the flap to the right. You can then push the whole box up and left, Allowing you access to the warp bubble.

Chapter 3

This is where it starts to get interesting!

Fly to the right and pick up the new parts! You'll need those to modify your ship a-team style and get past the next obstacles.

Soon you'll come to an upright log that can't be pushed aside normally. For this you'll need to poke at it via a small gap near the bottom of the log, just to the right of the upgrade station. Go to the upgrade station and follow the tutorial on adding new parts to your ship. With these new parts added in the suggested way you should be able to poke the log so that it falls through the hole.

After that you'll pick up two more ship pieces and find yourself up against another ship building puzzle. This time you need to create a design that will poke downwards. Again the tutorial helps here and supplies you with a design to do the job!

Next you're on your own and need to create a pole sticking upwards from your ship to dislodge a ball that will then roll to the right and push the metal pole downwards. You only need to put two straight pipes into the top socket of your ship (removing the current add-ons first of course). This can take a bit of shoving, so if you're having trouble you could always add the Y shaped pipe onto the top of the other two to give a bit more leverage.

Further on there is a lift which you need to push down. The clue says "put on some extra weight" so that's exactly what you need to do. Add a few pipes to your ship, but do your best to keep it balanced eg, add some pipes either side of the ship. I go with the two straight pieces in the top corner sockets and the Y shaped piece in the top centre. And remember - when you get onto the lift stay still, as if it goes far enough down, it won't come back up again!

And finally the portal is just to your right and you can move onto the next level!

Chapter 4

Now we're talking, there's a more powerful rocket sitting right next to the start of the level! Moving to the right you'll be given a tutorial on fitting this and assigning a key so that you can use it to push the large piston upwards and continue to the right.

Then it's time for a bit of fancy flying, hitting the pendulums so that you can pass by. Just past those is an upgrade station, which if you've kept the powerful rocket where it was you don't really need. The hatch above can be pushed aside fairly easily.

Then I would suggest flying immediately right to where some pistons are firing downwards. You'll need to time it right to get past them, but it's worth it as another ship part lies just beyond. Getting back is no problem, the panels on the lower level swing by to let you pass.

When continuing to the right however you'll encounter two puzzles - lets deal with the first which is a large piston which, when pushed, will reveal two new ship upgrades to be picked up! The trick to getting these is to replace the booster on the left of your ship with the more powerful one! This might sound a bit counter productive when you need to push the piston to the left but here's what you do: Take a run up from the upgrade station and as soon as you hit the piston start moving right. The more powerful rocket will help you do this quickly and you will have time to get the upgrades!

Chapter 5

Ah, that's a "pull beam" just to the left of where you start. This handy tool lets you grab onto items that glow green and pull them aside. Immediately after picking this up you're presented with a log to shift, so it's off to the upgrade station to fit your new pull beam to your ship. Obviously this is best fitted to the bottom of your ship to lift the log off the ground. I highly recommend assigning the q or w keys to pull and push beams because using the Space bar (which for me was the obvious choice) can lead to key-locks and make steering a bit difficult!

Another tip is how to lift objects. Rather than just sitting on the log, engaging the pull beam and then lifting off: it's quicker to lift off and then start pulling a split second later as the added momentum you've already gained helps a lot!

Bob Came In Pieces: Second Ship Part location on level 5Next you'll come to an upgrade station and then a large shaft going down and a passage to your left. First go down the shaft and you'll see some rocks glowing green to your right. Use your pull beam to drag these into the shaft clearing a way to a new ship part! This can be a bit tricky but it's good practice using the pull beam. It may help to redesign your ship with the pull beam on the right side of your ship, but be careful of overbalancing it!

After this you can go back up the shaft and to the left where a large crate is blocking your path. You'll need to go back to the upgrade station and redesign your ship so that the pull beam is on the left - remembering to balance with other pieces on the right. Don't forget that it's a bit easier if you fit the more powerful rocket on the left too!

Don't worry if you get stuck, you can always press enter to return back to the upgrade station!

When you reach the next upgrade station don't redesign your ship straight away, keep the pull beam on the left as you'll need it to pull out the wooden beam holding up a log immediately after this. And don't change after that either, you'll need this design again soon.

Once you're pulled the beam out and got past the upright log you can move to the left, however keep an eye out for a (kind of) hidden entrance to the mine-shaft! Once you've gone past a mushroom and reached a (none pick-up-able) crate there is a down-wards entrance into the mine just to the right. Go down this shaft and take the first passage to the left. A mine cart can be found at the very end of the passage - use your pull beam to pull it to the right so that it clears the passage on the left. Then it's time to fly back out again: fly all the way back out and up to the crate where the mine entrance was.

Bob Came In Pieces: Third Ship Part location on level 5Further to the left is another passage downwards and an upgrade station. Use the upgrade station to swap the position of your pull beam from pointing left to pointing right instead! Then head down the shaft, past the mine cart you just moved and you'll find another upgrade station. Go further down the current passage and to the right there will be another mine cart. Use your pull beam to pull the cart to the left opening the passage to the right further.

You can then return to the first passage (up the current passage, go right once you are outdoors and down the first passage you went through) and venture further down the mine, past the mine carts you've moved until you find (tadah!) another ship module! We're not quite finished in this section of mines yet however!

Bob Came In Pieces: Fourth Ship Part location on level 5Go down the second passage again and back to that upgrade station half way down and redesign your ship so you have the pull beam underneath again. Then follow the passage to the left as it goes up, left and down again until you see a crate on a lift. Lift and drag it down the short passage to the left so that the lift goes all the way upwards. You can then go under where the crate originally sat and claim another new ship module!

Ok now we're done with this area of the level, fly out and up back to the surface and go to the upgrade station. I would suggest fitting the pull beam to a straight pipe at the bottom of your ship, so that it's level with your bottom boosters. You then need to place at least two of the crates to the left onto the platform a bit further to the left. Using the momentum trick really helps here! Once these have been moved you can fly under the train carriage and into the next section of the mine.

Just past the next upgrade station is a hidden passage upwards! Take this passage to find the final ship part for this level. It's a bit tricky to spot so I've shown that rather than the actual module in the picture here. That's all the ship parts for this level then!

Back down the passage and to the left you'll come to a very sharp decline in the track and the final puzzle for the level will be revealed! The trick here is to push the mine cart at the bottom of the track to the right and up the track so that it has enough momentum to ride back down and into the boxes that are holding up the metal beam in the way of the portal. The best configuration for this is simply to have the more powerful booster at the bottom of your ship, because as you start pushing the cart to the right you'll end up pushing it upwards. Try to push it to where the track becomes completely vertical, that should enable the cart to build up enough speed!

Chapter 6

In this level we are introduced to a new game element: Burning Twigs! Basically all you need to do is fire a booster right next to a bunch of the twigs, which glow red, and they'll catch on fire and eventually burn away. You're given the immediate opportunity to try this out by burning the twigs just to the right of the starting position.

Once these are out of the way you can drop down and there is the portal! But wait, There's a metal beam blocking it and it's connected to some kind of mechanism ending in a metal arrow pointing upwards. What we need is some kind of weight that will sit nicely on the arrow. So that's what we'll go and look for!

Bob Came In Pieces: First Ship Part location on level 6Head left and you'll come to an upgrade station, you don't really need to change your ship design as the next obstacle involves burning some twigs. Simply land right next to the twigs and thrust to the right so that the booster on the left hand side of your ship burns the twigs. Make sure you burn all of the twigs, it makes it easier later. But also it makes it easier to reach the first new ship part in the level! Head up between the wooden pillars and you can easily push open the hatch at the top giving you access to the ship part! Go back down through the hatch and travel further left. When you get to the next upgrade station the best bet is to change your ship design so that both your left booster is, at the very least, on the end of 3 straight pipes. Balance the right hand side by adding a couple of pipes to the top right corner socket. Then when you approach the next obstacle you should notice that the log is held in place by a couple of bunches of twigs. You can only reach the twigs through a small opening that you should be able to now get your left booster in. It takes a bit of wriggling but you should be able to set things on fire from there. If not, go back and try one of the more powerful boosters on the left.

Bob Came In Pieces: Second Ship Part location on level 6Carrying onto the left you'll come to a rock as pictured. There is a secret passage here hidden behind the rock. If you drop down you should be able to find it and pick up a new part for your ship!

Next, carry on up the hill to the left and you'll eventually find another upgrade station next to a pond where a strange piece of scaffolding is sitting. This looks like it could sit on that arrow near the portal and help gain access to it! At the upgrade station I find attaching the more powerful rockets at the bottom of your ship along with the pull beam in the bottom middle (with a straight pipe so it's level with your rockets) works well. To make things even easier, on each top corner of your ship you can attach 1 straight pipe and a V shaped pipe (pointing downwards) and attach your spare, smaller boosters to give you some extra lift here.

Before doing anything with the piece of scaffolding however, travel further left and pickup a new ship part by burning the thorny twigs protecting it. I didn't think you needed a screenshot of this one though!

Next your job is to take that piece of scaffolding back to where the portal was. This takes a bit of doing, the extra thrust really helps here. You can pretty much throw it down the hill but once it's down there get it on it's longest side to get it through the obstacles. Once you're back at the portal, use the pull beam to place the scaffold on top of the arrow. If you get it close enough, the game is kind enough to pull it (magnetically?) into place. But even though you get it that far it's still not heavy enough to engage the mechanism!

Now it's time to go right where you'll soon come across an upgrade station. Change your ship design so that you replace any boosters you have in the corners with a single booster pointing upwards from the top centre socket on your ship. Then fly a bit further to the right where there is a ball (ignore that for now) and a seesaw where the right hand side is suspended by some twigs. You should be able to fly under the seesaw and burn the twigs using the booster you placed on the top of your ship. Once they've gone, use your pull beam (which is hopefully still on the bottom of your ship) and drop the ball onto the seesaw. This should now be able to knock another seesaw allowing you to continue further to the right.

Next you will come to a tower - but ignore that for now! Carry on til you reach the very right hand side of the level and you can burn your way through to another ship part! (Again I didn't think you'd need a picture of that!)

Head back to the tower and notice the two sets of twigs holding up the planks just above you. You should still have the booster on the top of your ship which is capable of burning these sets of twigs, letting the planks drop so you can reach higher into the tower. Further up is an extra piece of scaffolding, covered in twigs. Burn the twigs off and bring it back to the portal using the pull beam.

Bob Came In Pieces: Fifth Ship Part location on level 6When you're back at the portal, place the new piece of scaffold on top of the piece you placed before and it will descend, revealing the portal - don't jump into it yet though! We've one more ship part to get! Use the pull beam to lift off the piece of scaffold you just placed, don't worry the mechanism won't reset itself. You can then go past the first scafold and to the right to pick up a new ship part! It's then time to move onto the next level, through the portal.
