Review by Andy Yates

time gentlemen please screenshot - click for larger image Time Gentlemen Please is a point-and-click adventure game, carrying on the best traditions of classic Lucasarts games of the same genre. Except they must have played Sam and Max and decided it was too sensible! This game is seriously crazy, but it’s that kind of crazy that can fool you into thinking it knows what it’s doing!

The game tries to answer many of life’s difficult questions, such as: How do you make a dead mouse more attractive? And will sticking a dead mans hand down a toilet help to extract vital “DNA”?

Somehow the puzzles make sense, there are surprisingly intricate clues hidden around. If you can be patient enough to look at each item carefully, and if you’re into this genre I’m guessing you will, then the item combinations almost work themselves out. In some ways it’s genius…maybe.

Time Gentlemen Please can be gross. Some of the events make you go “Nooooo! Don’t do it!” but aside from its disgusting nature, you have to applaud for its comedy elements. The jokes, both visual and wordy, are laugh out loud funny.

It’s also quintessentially British, which shouldn’t score points from me, but I can’t help it! From the Tower of London, to the mention of the BBC showing re-runs of Magnum PI, the various and plentiful reminders of my own country (not that I need reminders I guess) make me smile every time. However, I want to assure people of other nationalities that they will still enjoy this game nevertheless!

Apart from any Nazi’s that are still knocking about anyway!

At which point I should probably mention the “Racism Bar” that is located in the options. You can select you own level of offensiveness! Actually, I’m not sure what did this – I put it all the way to max and I wasn’t offended, but then again I’m not a Nazi or a Dinosaur (have I mentioned the dinosaurs?).

Something else that I liked was the music. It has a definite “Sam and Max” feel to it, mostly being that slow club-jazz feel for neutral locations and evil fanfares for, well, evil locations. It obviously works well, it’s hard to imagine any other music in a game like this. The only thing I miss, and the creators will probably groan at me, is voice acting. It would have added that extra something to this already great effort.

I loved the art style of the game which lends itself easily to the games comic style. It's unusual and a little retro but also consistant and bold. It just works! Some people may be put off by it, but if you are and can bring yourself to look past it you’re going to find something surprising.

You’ll find Time Gentlemen Please to be one of the most imaginative, inventive and hilariously crude point-and-click adventures you’ll ever play!

Score: 80 out of 100

Final Words: Fantastically Funny! Fantastically Crude! Fantastic Value!
